The hay meadows are located on a farm which has been certified organic since 1998. With sensitive management, including late cutting for hay, light autumn grazing and no artificial fertiliser, these meadows have been preserved and maintained with plant diversity as the main focus. Both flora and fauna have been monitored on the farm over the past 30 years by Jonathan Shackleton. They contain a huge diversity of plant species including Bugle, lady’s-mantle, Meadow Foxtail, Sweet Vernal-grass, Cuckooflower, Common Knapweed, Pignut, Crested Dog’s-tail, Common Spotted-orchid, Meadowsweet, Wild Strawberry, Cat’s-ear, Meadow Vetchling, Autumn Hawkbit, Oxeye Daisy, Cowslip, Selfheal, Yellow-rattle, sorrel, Red Campion, Tufted Vetch and Bush Vetch.
